Stitching News With Tooting

Rose arrived supporting a 'Finishing Cake'... that's no mean feat when you're a quilter eh... towing machine in trolley, Mat & Ruler Bag, big bag of sewing supplies lunch etc and fabrics AND a scrumptious 'Finishing Cake'! I didn't take a photo of the delicious cake but here's  the quilt earned us such a treat... What a stunner! Imagine the weight gain if everyone brought in a cake when they finished each project?

You might remember that Rose started this Bargello project only last Tuesday... she says that she got totally engrossed with it at home... she stitched another strip set during the day and added a lot more rows... absolutely WOWeeee

Marilla attended the Stack-n-Whack workshop the last Saturday. She's piecing her blocks by hand... not that it makes any difference to the finished blocks.... she popped into My Very Own Quilt Shop to buy a little bit more white fabric and brought in her first two finished blocks, aren't they just fab!

Stitching News

PM Pam might regret the day she ever made her first cushion... considering that she only made it to use up left over quilt fabric. That first cushion turned out to be a set of 6, followed by orders for more and more cushions... including this latest one, a large floor cushion with the fabulous Churndash block

Jean Bean decided to make a baby play mat... she wants it finished as soon as possible... so she purchased these lovely splendid fabrics (can you guess where from? ha ha ha) and made a set of 6" squares to play with, patchwork doesn't get much easier than joining squares does it?

A Toot Toot Toot for Ann Baker with her 'first festive finish'... one cushion from a set of 6.  Ann's very brave... she put zips in the back of her lovely cushions!

Christmas Tree News

We will soon have enough Christmas trees to have our very own forest! Here's a few photos of the progress so far by the Monday Ladies
Morning Judith's tree, one of my favourite new green fabrics... and see how the bright yellow fabrics Judith used in the baubles make it look like the lights are on? I see that, especially with my rubbish picture looking really dark at the top! ha ha

Afternoon Judith has carefully fussy cut fabrics to get tiny little pictures in the centres of her baubles, she's going to make a second tree just as soon as this one is finished.

Cynthia's tree is quite different... a delicious purple tree fabric surrounded by stunning silvery background fabric with a dramatic black tree trunk... all available in My Very Own "Angie's Patchwork & Quilting Shop" while stocks last.... wooohooo, it seems everyone is starting to buy Festive Fabrics!

Toot Toot Toot

The block design for this Toot Toot Toot is the very popular, Split 4 Patch. The quilt maker is Sporty Sue.... we haven't had another Sue join us, it's Late Sue's new name. As a few of you pointed out, 'Late' has two meanings, he he he... the meaning in this case is the one that tells us that Sue usually arrives late but, Sue's been bang on time for several weeks now. She is a most energetic and very sporty person so Joan The Shop started a wee campaign on her behalf and they won me over...
Toot Toot Toot Sporty Sue, your quilt is fabulous!

Stack-n-Whack Kaleidoscope Workshop

The Stack-n-Whack Kaleidoscope workshop has to be at the top of the list for fun workshops. It never fails to impress all participants. Take a look at some of the examples from yesterdays ladies' results... Their chosen fabrics and first blocks, simply amazing!

Stitching News With Tooting

Barbie finished this quilt by embellishing with a couple of tiny-weeny-fiddly-diddly buttons in the flower centres... she says she had no idea the quilt would turn out so big... even though the pattern told her... ha ha ha. Hasn't it turned out lovely?? A free pattern from Moda Bake Shop

Boo! Brenda Barbara finished her Halloween wall hangings just in the very nick of time ... those bats sure look spooky glaring at my camera! The hanging equipment used to attach the little quilts to the lovely wire hanging frame, just for my photo shooting, is very high quality... no expense is spared in My Very Own Classroom!!!

Ann Baker finished her Paper Pieced baubles and declared that she had thoroughly enjoyed making them... she's finishing her tree by adding 24 pockets... like you would for an Advent Calendar! by George that's very clever! She was inspired by the work of the other ladies who had attended the Advent Tree workshops

Caverswall Quilt Cave

Chatty Cathy made a sandwich and started quilting the first quarter of her Kaleidoscope project.

Arty Beryl has been working on the blocks for this crazy quilt for many, many months. She made her sandwich (very much a not liked part of quilting for Beryl) the back is pieced too. She's going to quilt this then make borders.

Lacey Anne was sandwich number three with her wonky ballerinas, beautiful on both front and the back. Anne appliquéd the young lady's name on the backing too.

Yes, the post was written in a hurry.... we've got another Stack-n-Whack Kaleidoscope workshop today and I'm running late..... more later

Stitching News

Fran had used a deliscious Charm pack to make some lovely cushions to gift... she had a few Charms squares left over and decided to make an extra cushion... it took a while to find a block that would use 5", without any waste at all... good old Churnndash.... isn't it a lovely block!! This busy fellow is very much My Very Own Cup-O-Tea
Rose is using one of the Jelly Roll books to make a Bargello Beauty... she isn't using a Jelly Roll though, she chose a most stunning mix of fabrics and cut them into 2 1/2" strips, it's exactly the same as using a Jelly Roll but with much more colour control.

This Advent Calendar belongs to our Jean Bean... she spent the whole day helping out in My Very Own Patchwork and Quilting Shop, and stitching on buttons... it's a very time consuming job but well worth doing, after seeing these projects coming to life, I think quite a few ladies will be increasing their button collections... buttons are such fabulous additions to quilts!!!!
Princess Jackie finished quilting this lovely quilt, it's another example of the photo not showing you how lovely it actually is, laid on the cutting table in My Very Own Shop shop, I'll get a great Toot Toot Toot picture for you next time.... it's going to have a cream binding added, not wanting to add any more colour to this stunning lap quilt.

Toot Toot Toot

Toot Toot Toot for New Sue... she took part in the first of the two workshops for this Paper Pieced beauty... Sue has perfected her Paper Piecing skills right enough and, more impressively to her, she announced that she has "conquered her demons" ... those that have been preventing her from free motion quilting... this wall hanging is covered in swirly whirly, curly curls, even the present shapes have been stitched free-motion-ly!

New Sue again, a double tootety-toot... she finished her Advent Calendar wall hanging too, even with the buttons stitched on... she left each tiny ornament hanging on the fabulous buttons so we could see how lovely the 24th of December version will look!.. the yellow pole won't be visible though... that's a photo prop!

Stitching News

Longport Lynda, though this was never a race... was the first to complete all of her Paper Pieced baubles from the workshop on Saturday... she made the last one during our meeting and is now able to stitch all the tree parts together.

Here's another finished Advent Christmas Tree wall hanging top, once you know how to make them they are very easy to put together, a few of the ladies are actually making several to give away as gifts or raffle prizes.

Morning Judith, who came for the afternoon class just to confuse us, also finished the last few of her Paper Pieced Baubles, she's ready to trim them up (not sure why we 'trim up' when we actually 'trim down'? !) to finish the tree and get ready for borders.
I think this one belongs to PM Pam, you do have to take care when piecing the pocket units together... that's if you don't want any of the little goodies to fall out, he he I bet you can see the tell tale thread bits on a few of those pockets... un-stitching is a very popular activity in my very own classroom!

Oh Christmas Tree Workshop

Friday Quilt Club

Joan The Shop has returned to her fruity fish quilt... thoguh she still doesn't see why we call it a fruity fish quilt! he he he. It's another that Joan has chosen to make using the apartment quilting method as it's 'A Big Un'

Helen decided, for her very own sanity to remain at a normal level, that she needs to make a few bigger blocks, that quarter inch finished, half square triangles block got the better of her in the end. This is a 9" block, one of many to come.

Maid Marion is making this Advent calendar wall quilt in between all the technical stuff on her Heirloom quilt... she's at the quilting stage with this one.
It was a very quiet day for Friday Quilt Club, which felt a little strage... but we still put the world right, and shared a few cheeky jokes ha ha ha!

Toot Toot Toot

Glenys popped into My Very Own Quilt Shop to show us her finished Railfence Table Runner... except it's going to be a wall hanging, now that'll bring a smile every time someone walks by it eh!

Glenys also brought in her 'Oh Christmas Tree' wall hanging, which was very timely as the follow up workshop was the to be on the very next day... She just needed to purchase the binding fabric and soon enough this quilt will be getting a toot toot toot too.

Customer Toot Toot's

Toot Toot Toot number one... this lady had purchased a Jelly Roll from somewhere, a while ago. My Very Own Quilt Shop just happened to have lovely co-ordinating fabrics to help her finish this fabulous sampler quilt.

The very same lady made this beauty using a pattern in a quilting magazine, she has doubled the size though. I have to say this picture doesn't show you any where near how lovely this quilt is! Both of the above quilts will be gifted.

Meryl, who came for her first class last week, had finished her table runner centre at home which meant she was not only able to add two borders but she went home with a perfect sandwich too. Next week she can embark on her quilting journey.
