Saturday's Workshop

I started the the ladies off at the end of the workshop... going backwards actually, he he he. I thought it was best to make up the Christmas Tree frame work first of all as the paper pieced baubles can take several hours... I thought it wouldn't have been good to send folk home with little clue how to continue. As you see here with the outlines pinned to some wadding, it was easy to see how the whole tree would come together.

After a short paper piecing demonstration, full of top tips, not all mine... production started on the baubles. Paper piecing can be a little tricky at first but they soon got the hang of it. There are 5 different designs and two of each are needed. Most ladies completed at least 2 baubles and some did 3.

I happen to know that some have been bauble-ing all day today, after a few extra hours last evening... will we see completed trees sooner than expected?

The workshop was a success so I have advertised a second one for Saturday 20th October, let me know if you want to participate won't you?

I did make a few extra baubles this afternoon... only 4 to go. Can you spot the mistake I made, accidently on purpose?

Toot Toot Toot

Now these photo's are really not good, the light was behind the quilt and that plays havoc with the camera on automatic setting... I'm no photography wizz so, a rubbish photo is better than no photo!
This toot toot toot moment is for Posh Lizi... it's so lovely, modern and fresh. It's Half Square Triangles (HST's) made from 5" squares, very easy to do really, especially good for a quick finish.
Lizi made it as a gift for a special friend of hers... can you see the lovely quilting Lizi did in the borders? Just lovely...

So, Lizi had a lot of little bits left over from making the top, after playing with them for a short while we decided to make this little Bargello-ed panel... didn't it turn out fab!!! What a lucky friend.

Caverswall Quilt Cave

Charlotte finished her lovely Railfence quilt Toot toot toot....
Just in time to go back to University. This is a super-sized table runner and is just about perfect for a Bed Scarf... which was Charlotte's intention when she began... bed scarves are a brilliant idea, don't you think? I know it doesn't look it but this scarf is about three metres long and it was Charlotte's first ever quilt!

Helen is taking a short break from her heirloom quilt to do some smaller, fun things... Christmas Stockings for gifts.  These are made from panels (availabubble in My Very Own Quilt Shop) She's quilting all the stocking fronts and backs and making 3D holly leaves...

Maid Marion's heirloom quilt centre... stunning isn't it! It's already got wadding behind every block, trapunto areas have a few layers actually... now it has one last layer of wadding and a backing and all the pins...... heavy? oh yes... a very heavy sandwich and there will be 18" borders added to all sides.

Marilla loves to piece by hand. Here, she's foundation piecing a crazy patchwork design in heart shapes... she stitches away and picks up top tips about cutting with our rotary cutting equipment... she's tempted to try a little machine piecing too.

New Sue popped in to make a sandwich with her stunning Kaleidoscope Stack-n-Whack quilt top centre, what a mouthful that is! I know I have mentioned it before.. I'll just remind you... you don't have to be a regular attendee of our Caverswall Quilt Cave to use our tables for making sandwiches, you just book your tables, pop in, make your sandwich, pay £5.00 and  you're done... I always take rolls of wadding to the hall too, which is great if you forget to bring yours... he he he.

Thursday Stitching

Kate finished making her quilted back pack, isn't it pretty. It's a free pattern from P&B Textiles, click here if you want to get your own copy. The little lady who will be receiving this lovely gift will surely be 'chuffed to bits', don't you think?

Mystery Margaret's been making Pin-wheel blocks for a while now... she decided that there were enough... she picked out her favourites, decided on the sashing and how the quilt will come together... We shall call that plan A, during the day there were mutterings of different settings and much creative chatter...  seems there could be a Plan B on the horizon...

Tuesday Class

Giggly Gillian started this project at her last meeting... I took pictures then too... thing is... it IS the same project but every fabric is different now, seems Gillian couldn't bring herself to use the first blocks as she liked them and wants to make a quilt all for her very own self with those ones, ever happened to you?

Lovely Lyn finished making all of her blocks, she had been thoroughly enjoying making them too... but, as the quilt  top is now in one piece, Lyn announced that she would 'never again' make a quilt with triangles in it! ... ever happened to you?

Princess Jackie finished all of the Ohio Stars that she needs for this next project. She has lots of the joining blocks made too... I think they are called Stepping Stone blocks and they turned out quite perfect... ever happened to you? 

This is Lovely Lyn's new button... yes the button! Lyn made this bag ages ago... could possible be a year ago actually... she's been using the bag on a daily basis but this week, possible a year later... it gained a beautiful co-ordinating button... sometimes you have to wait for the perfect finishing touch... Ever happened to you?
I'm mentioning the button because I just started to sell beautiful buttons in My Very Own Quilt Shop, and that's where Lyn found her perfect button!

Morning Judith's Quilt

This is Morning Judith's Holiday quilt... she bought the fabrics from a 'furrin' country while she was there on her jolly holiday recently... what a lovely reminder of fun times! They're sort of thick linen-y texture so were making tricky, bulky seams but the quilt turned out lovely.

I'm having computer issues at the moment... it keeps turning off half way through me writing the posts and I never have time to re-write em... going to swap computer over very soon. My Lilly came to visit and I gave her the job of sorting it out!! he he he

Monday Stitching

Pm Pam finished making all 60 of her 12" blocks and started to add the sashing. It will be 2" wide with corner stones, obviously they will also be 2". This large quilt will be quilted in two halves and joined together afterwards.

Penelope Baskerville arrived with the biggest smile ever!!! She has a brand new sewing machine all for her very own self and boy is she ever excited about it, a surprise gift from a family member... "and it's purple" she declared, he he he... wonderful...  these are Penny's Friendship Star blocks, coming along a treat.

Morning Judith didn't bring her sewing machine to class... she was on a mission to get quilts made into sandwiches, two baby play mat type quilts. Now she has a pile of PHD's (Projects Half Done) all in the 'need to be quilted' queue, they won't be there for long though.

Afternoon Judith came for the whole day, she's decided to get back to making up her Stack-n-Whack kaleidoscope blocks that she started at the workshop several weeks ago. Beautiful and bright fabrics that just make you smile as you sew... well, they make me smile as Judith sews, ha ha ha

More new fabrics have arrived in my very own quilt shop. A large book order also arrived safely, delivered by a rather jolly delivery guy... if delivery guys appear whilst we are in the midst of a class they always leave with a big smile... they must think we're all crackers as we swarm around each cardboard box to see what came!!

Toot Toot Toot

This cutie belongs to Afternoon Judith. She made it as a baby play mat  using a Charm Pack from?... My Very Own Quilt Shop, of course!! ha ha As we start of in September there are lots of customers coming to get ideas for making pressies...

... This is the back, now can Christmas-sy /wintery fabric get any cuter than this? See the black and white dotty fabric Judith used for the binding? It's perfectly perfect!

Lesley finished her Rail Fence table runner, which is our beginner project at the moment... She's very proud of her very own, very first quilt... beautiful isn't it!
Lesley's already started to compile a  'next project' list which must be just about filling a large piece of paper by now, he he
