Caverswall Quilt Cave

Barbie quilted along the sashing to stabilise everything, a little quilty stitching to shadow each of the hearts and all was done... well.... there were lots of ends to tie off... a job she saved for watching TV one evening. Barbie has to make another of these quilts now... pinks next time....
Pauline has a very complicated Brother sewing machine, I have never seen anything quite like it, it has a very space ship like way of threading the needle, we wasted so much time trying to get it to sew nicely. I think technology's gone mad! In the end Dotty Maureen go t it going so Pauline was able to start quilting her Railfence quilt with a perfectly coloured, variegated King Tut thread....
This is a Bento Box... except it's really a Bento Boxers quilt.... he he he Most of these fabrics were men's boxer shorts!!! Apparently Tesco has a sale on extra, extra large men's boxers and they are 100% cotton, so... at 3 pairs for £1, Lacey Ann jumped at the chance! Great fabrics for quilting but what possessed folks to make men's boxers out of them?
Helen's gift quilt, that still may end up on her very own sofa! The centre is finished, all but one of the sashing strips, so Helen spent the day cutting out all the various squares and triangles for her border blocks, each one only 4"... she's working in blacks and dark greys which can be very hard on the eyes... Helen decided it's time for an eye test! he he he. She likes to cut out all her bits and bobs before she does any sewing.... I could do with a little of this discipline myself, he he he
Annie has a few projects on the go but she's decided to finish some of them before she starts new ones.... this is a good theory for a quilter as so many people are drowning under UFO's and PhD's.. Annie did finish quilting this log cabin quilt and was very pleased with herself....
So ... she was able to get out her Pineapple Blossom blocks. Here we are auditioning for sashing fabrics. When a decision is needed, we have our ladies gather round to give their opinion.... this time the centre one won, all the ladies liked the darker brown one, Annie was happy with the choice so she'll probably bring it in finished next week.. he he he
After our meeting in the "Lunch Lounge" I gave a short demonstration about HST's (Half Square Triangles) The ladies oooooh'd and aaaaah'd a bit... we love clever little short cut tricks eh.... Later, as they had enjoyed the Bento Box demo so much a few weeks ago, I showed them another, similar method that produces these blocks... very clever you know. and so simple!

Brenda Barbara is on the home straight with her Chunky Churndash sofa throw, just a few lines of stitching to be done in the borders now... we calculated that she will just about have enough of her fabric for the binding... just enough mind... no room for error (no pressure eh!)
Dotty Maureen's chain piecing.... she's working with some quite bright colours these days, the ladies are getting quite curious about to what she is making... I'm sure it won't be too long now before we get a bigger clue.
My Mum finished her second Bento Box quilt. This time she quilted with diagonal lines, it's a little less stressful on the shoulders than stitching round and round each box.....
Mum's on a roll with these table runners too. I only mentioned one day that I had too many Christmas fabrics that I don't like any more and she came over to shop in my stash!!! I guess I need to be more careful what I say now that Mum's getting into making quilts eh!... not that she will confess to being a quilter quite yet!
Annie has been playing with a quilty friend.... she's dabbled with applique, and made two of these lovely quilts... they will be made into cushions.... the little people and the little hairdooos are sooooooo cute, click on the picture so you can zoom in for a closer look, he he he

We meet again next Wednesday, 15th September, 10am - 3pm.... My little shop and Kettle Corner would be happy to have you come visit....
