Stitching News

New Sue is very happy with her "Spinning Springtime" Wall hanging. She wanted it to look 'Daffodilly' and 'Muddy Grassy'... just like real gardens at the beginning of Spring! I think you will agree that Sue's project is very 'Daffodilly' and 'Muddy Grassy'. She has plans for other flowers now, all seasons will have a quilt.
Giggly Gillian finished fussy cutting out her roses and had them all stuck in place with Steam-a-Seam 2 light, a very easy to use 'sticky-stuff'. After adding the very pretty border fabrics, Gillian set about stitching round all of the tricky shapes with a rather beautiful King Tut thread.
Oh my goodness... how cute-tey-cute is this quilt??? Last week there was just the one little duckling and that was cute enough!... Princess Jackie's quilt top went home all pinned up ready for quilting.
Early Sue's Batik Bargello... made from half of a jelly roll with the addition of border fabrics... who would have thought that one Jelly roll could produce a whole quilt? I know they tell you it does but now we see it...
The Batik Jelly Roll Sue chose was 2 3/4" wide, even though it's a Moda one.
I thought I would show you this cushion, purchased by a customer who bought it in to show to us... £6.99, lovely idea, rather cute, quite well made... no wonder folk under value craft eh. Twas made in a foreign land, I bet the maker didn't have the fun we do either.

Stitching News

Lady Judith, who used to be Afternoon Judith. Why the change? The mug she uses says "Lady Of The Manor"  so 'Lady Judith' it is from now on, To curtsey or not to curtsey? that is a good question... finished piecing this quilt, started at the workshop last Saturday and after sandwiching made a good start on the quilting
PM Pam chose to make her Spinning quilt with Christmas fabrics... it was originally a Christmas Wreath quilt after all. Pam almost finished the quilting during the day too, so I expect we shall need to polish our trumpets ready for tooting both ladies next week.
Longport Lynda continued making Hour Glass blocks for her Chunky Churndash quilt. It's going to be a beauty with all the delicious purples she chose to use... This is another favourite design of mine from Quiltville.
Cynthia is back with us... she's had bionic bits fitted to one leg, ha ha ha, she says it's a new knee but I've noticed how fast she's walking! Cynth was making a Cathedral Window pin cushion... and talking... I think she's missed her stitchy chums.
Chris not only finished her Railfence table runner in record time and started a Mat and Ruler Bag with free motion quilting, she's making Ohio Star blocks that will be transformed into a baby quilt... woooops... of course I mean a Play Mat!
Is that fabric cute or what!!!
Having made a super sized sandwich at Caverswall Quilt Cave last week, Jean Bean started the mammoth job of quilting. She's needing to stitch diagonally from the centre to the edges and keeps loosing her way... Lines... she's now drawing guide lines and finding it a little easier... but only a little!

Tooting Time

Chris finished her lovely Autumnal Railfence table runner... She now has her very own set of rotary cutting equipment so she's making a Mat and Ruler Bag... quite essential and fun to boot. She's adding appliqué to the ruler pocket and is stitching free motion to quilt it.
Morning Judith made this quilt using up some of her hubby's shirts... don't go worrying, he had decided he didn't want them any more...The quilt is so soft and snugly to touch but it was tricky to piece... softer fabrics want to move about while you're stitching them...
This is the back, also made with shirts but this time they're needle cord... all very washed and worn so they too are super soft. You can see Judith's quilting better from the back can't you.
Toot toot toot ladies... your quilts are fabulous.

Jolly Jo's Stack-n-Whack Kaleidoscope Quilt

Toot Toot Toot for Jolly Jo... We've seen a lot of fabulous Kaleidoscope quilts over the months and, I have to say, I never get tired of them... Each one is so very different from the next. The ladies all chose their own setting and different ways of finishing their quilts. Many different combinations of beautiful fabrics... and different quilting styles. All so very inspiring, don't you think?
Jolly Jo is very happy with her quilt and I should "Jolly" well hope so... he he he.

Stitching News

Starting off this post with a fanfare of tooting for Jenny Barlaston's latest finished quilt.
What a cuttie it is too... and a fabulous picture of Jenny's quilting, looks like the light was just right because I really don't know how to take such detailed pictures, he he he.
Gail is working on a Log Cabin quilt. She's going good and steady, trying really hard to get the blocks to turn out the perfect size... and she's succeeding!
Meryl finished her sleeveless quilted jacket. She popped it on and gave us a twirl to show it off... we don't have space for a real Catwalk. This is Meryl's very own design and it's reversible to boot.
Gail gets the last toot toot for today... We've had a run on the Count On It books, and no wonder... look how cute the little quilts are... New Sue is working on March now... could turn into a calendar race! Lovely job Gail... toot toot toot!

Spinning Springtime Workshop

An absolutely fantastic day. Everyone was amazed with the results of their workshop. The classroom fell silent quiet a few times but the ladies promised me that they were having fun... concentration will do that to you I suppose. I did offer to sing a ditty or two to fill the silence... I was hastily reminded that I don't have a music license, so it probably wasn't a wise move...  Here, below, I present 'before' and 'after' pictures... I hope you agree that the results are quite fabulous?

There's another workshop planned "Spinning" workshop planned for Saturday 8th May. 10am - 4pm.

Caverswall Quilt Cave

It was fun to see what the ladies have been up to over the break. There was only the one new hairdo and I didn't notice any shiny new shoes... to be fair... I wasn't looking at feet, there were too many projects to be seen.
Jean Bean had joined her backing fabrics for the massive Log Cabin Quilt just in time to be first ready to use loads of tables and make her sandwich. One of the best things about Our Quilt Cave is when someone is making a sandwich... there's usually someone willing to help pin.
This is Irene's sandwich, again more hands making lighter work of the job... that's My Mum Gwynneth lying across the top there... us 'taller ladies' always get chosen to reach the centre... the 'Little Ladies' can't reach!
Wendy has had her very own production line running for weeks now... She's been wanting to make this Lone Star design for ages and it was all traditionally pieced... just a few Y seams and it will be finished.

Another of Wendy's projects, this time, paper piecing. I'm not sure whether she used a New York Beauty design but it looks like one, do you think? I will ask Wendy later.
Lacey Ann  has a quilt top finished and wanted to add a special border. She's invented Semolina Patchwork! What a clever lady...
Helen's Jelly Roll project, not the whole thing... this is about one quarter of it. Two Jelly Rolls will make a very good size quilt. Helen's very own, book and pattern free, design and it's all Dotty Maureen's fault, apparently... it's pieces and it's got triangles... Helen's not fond of hates piecing triangles. She's making this quilt to be gifted, I'm thinking it's going to be hard to part with.

Stitching News

Princess Jackie and Lovely Lyn treated themselves to a  Cuddle Me Quick  book a few weeks ago, it's got some of the cutest kiddy quilts in it. This week Jackie started making these adorable little duckling blocks. They're very easy to make and the background creates Bonus Half Square Triangles with just one extra line of stitching.
Just Edna is 'chuffed to bits' with her Charm Pack Tote Bag, and they are her very own words. The other side of Edna's bag is a completely different colour way so she can flip it round to co-ordinate with a lot of outfits...
My Mum Gwynneth has been intrigued with 3D designs for a long time now... She's always drawn to them. Mum had received a box of Fat Quarters by way of an apology from one of my suppliers... that's a whole 'nother story though. The box had several shades of pastels that are perfect for making cubes... very tricky piecing but taking shape nicely aren't they.
