Caverswall Quilt Cave

Caverswall Village Hall was buzzing with activity again, such fun.
Lynda brought in her latest sandwich and got cracking on the quilting. She's following the multi coloured star-ish design with shadow quilting, I think you should just be able to see that if you click on the picture. There's a lot of turning direction, pushing and pulling with this design but it's only a small quilt.

Barbie had a day off from her complex applique wall hanging and it doesn't get much easier than her new project... two pieces of fabric joined to make a sandwich and 'quilt as desired' ... ha ha... we still had to come up with  a plan for 'as desired' though, Barbie likes uniformity and these Thomas Tank squares don't run in straight lines!! She's an expert in choosing thread colours though, that's a King Tut variegated.

Dotty Maureen, I swear she is playing a game with me, especially after the Wednesday class confusion... this is definitely her table, she's making cube blocks for a baby quilt, don't they look fabulous, she's still working on the red and cream pineapple project too, and the Heirloom one that Helen and Marion are making... but we haven't seen that for a while have we...

We might well not have seen Dotty's for a while but Maid Marion is making great progress with her heirloom blocks. She was embellishing these triangular corner blocks with cording and stitching, if Marion's not careful she's going to finish them  ahead of Helen and end up being the teacher... Helen had to put hers on one side for a week or two to work on her commissioned quilt....

... Which is coming along a treat, as you can see here. Helen laid out the centre with the Sawtooth blocks to get an idea of how it will look and how many more HST's (Half Square Triangles) she needs. Yup, once again all the tables were being used, we were a full house! Thank goodness for the stage eh.

New Sue had finished her free motion quilting and so was ready to 'Cut The Crusts Off' her sandwich... he he he I showed he how to get it all level by following a seam line as opposed to the quilt edge... works every time for me... She made up the Faux Piped Binding too... I know I keep saying it but We love it and so I will keep singing it's praises...

Mystery Margaret was also at the crust removal stage, her quilt is huge though so it took ages, it's worth taking great care with this trimming process, it helps prevent wavy edges. Did you guess what I will say next... Mystery Margaret will use Faux Piped Binding too... cream with a highlight of the delicate blue patterned fabric... very nice indeed. She needs miles and miles of it.
We welcomed another new lady, Chris... Now, as you know, we already have two ladies named Chris so for now she can be New Chris until some other daft little name help crops up. She's only ever tried hand piecing so we went right back to basics starting with prrrressing, fabric folding and rotary cutting... she cut well, she stitched fairly well too... a little mix up with the Railfence design created a lovely windmill pattern... looks great eh! She got a lot done in the one day and announced that she would be back for more!

Ann's just retired her post as treasurer for SPQ after completing her 2 year duty so she can't really be Money Ann or Little Treasure any longer... we'll have to think of something else as we have a few Ann's too. I think you can see from the book that she's working with another Jelly Roll.  making the 16-Patch blocks to go in-between the boat blocks, starting with strip sets.

My Mum (Gwynneth) took her very own self off for a weekend break in the caravan ,so Wendy, very kindly, came to help out with Table Top Shop, wadding on the side... and it's a good job she did as we were super busy. Wendy just about had time to pair up her 5" squares of fabrics and make HST's (Half Square Triangles) She's making this free pattern from Moda Bake Shop but Wendy made up her very own Charm pack ... that doesn't surprise you though does it...

You MUST go to the Moda Bake Shop today... I clicked there to get the link to Wendy's project and found so much cool stuff has been posted... go here now and look...
