Joan The Shop treated herself to a new book from the Uttoxeter quilt show. 501 Rotary-cut Quilt Blocks, by Judy Hopkins. It's a great book that not only gives you hundreds of block designs but also has them in loads of sizes from 4" to 15". So, Joan chose these 4"Churndash blocks to use in the borders of her huge quilt.
Brenda Barbara has finished quilting her cushions but we put them on one side for the moment to get on with her Mat & Ruler bag, this is the 'quilt-as-you-go' ruler pocket with the binding in place ready to be attached to the bag.
As promised, a photo of Brenda's, now famous, very own free motion quilting design, 'Coastline'..... it takes a bit of practice but you could do it too! The thing is, if you have never tried to do free motion quilting, you won't appreciate this, Brenda's son asked "What is that mess?" cheek of it!.. wonder how he would do?
Joan The Shop decided to take the plunge too.... inspired by Brenda! Gloves are a brilliant aid for free motion quilting and only cost £1, available in many colours! Joan found the hardest thing was deciding on a pattern so I encouraged 'loopy loops', just to get started.... she soon moved on to flowers and hearts.
Cute fabric? Joan used this for half of the backing of the Peppa Pig quilt... which will now be quilted free motion-ly! Joan is always up for a challenge! During our meeting we trimmed up Joan's hexagon quilt and added the binding, it looks fabulous!
Messy Maureen came to play with us. She took delivery of her new, very own, Janome 6260 QC.... she sat very proudly sewing her new project... crazy blocks, she has silky stuff, velvety stuff, cotton fabrics and everything else in between... lots of shiny stuff...
We meet again next Friday, 23rd April, would you like to come over to play with us?
